Admissions Procedures    
Far Brook School seeks students from varied socio-economic, racial, and religious backgrounds who are intellectually curious, serious about learning, self-motivated, and disciplined.

INDIVIDUAL TOUR:
 
If you are unavailable to attend one of our admissions events, a brief Individual tour may be scheduled with the Admissions Office by calling (973) 379-3442.

2. Submit an Application
    
a) Download the Application Packet* To request an Application Packet by mail, email the Admissions Office or call (973) 379-3442.
 
Applications are activated once the parent or guardian has visited Far Brook.

b) Mail your completed application to Far Brook.

c) Submit the $100 application fee* (choose one):
* Application fee discounts are available for families who qualify. To request a fee discount, contact the Director of Admissions.

APPLICATION DEADLINE:  January 23, 2012
 
Birthday Cutoff:  Nursery applicants must be 4 years old and Kindergarten applicants must be 5 years old by September 1 of the year that the child would be attending.

3. Schedule Admissions Testing
    

Once an application is received and the parents have visited, the Admissions Office will call you to schedule the required screening or testing appointments:

Nursery applicants are evaluated during Playgroups/visits.

Kindergarten and Grade 1 applicants meet individually with a Far Brook learning consultant for a developmental screening and are also evaluated during Playgroups/visits.

Applicants for Grades 2 through 7 are tested individually by a Far Brook learning consultant. Applicants for Grades 5, 6, and 7 may additionally submit results from the SSAT or CTP IV, if taken within the last year.

4. Submit Teacher Recommendation and School Records    

Teacher recommendations are required for all grades. Age appropriate forms will be found in the application packet. Recommendations must be filled out by the applicant's current teacher(s) and sent directly to Far Brook.

Applicants for Grades 2 through 7 are required to submit a transcript from their current school. The Release of Records form, found in the application packet, should be given to the current school requesting that school records be sent directly to Far Brook.

5. Applicant Visit
    

Applicants for Nursery, Kindergarten, and Grade 1 will be invited to attend a scheduled Playgroup with other applicants. Playgroups take place in January and February.

Applicants for Grades 2 through 7 will be invited to spend either a full or partial day at Far Brook with the class they would be joining. Applicant visits are scheduled individually after the receipt of all required application materials.

6. Parent Meeting    
All parents/guardians must have a one-on-one meeting with the Director of Admissions or a member of the administrative staff. Meetings are scheduled to coincide with student visits whenever possible.

Notification
    
Families are typically notified of admission status in early March.
