At Far Brook we recognize that technology is an indisputable and a quickly evolving component of modern life and that our students must become adept and discriminating users. We strive to use technology wisely and carefully in a manner appropriate to Far Brook’s philosophy. Technology is integrated into the curriculum at every level as a tool to deepen and enhance learning to the degree that is practical and developmentally appropriate. Educational technology is a powerful medium with which our students can create, stretch their minds, and extend their capabilities.
In the Lower School, students use technology alongside their teachers. Software applications are used to enhance academic concepts. In the later grades of Lower School, students learn to access the campus network with their own account and begin to learn touch-typing.
In Middle School, the integration of technology into the curriculum continues to deepen the learning experiences of the students. Students learn to use technology to add to and enhance research and the presentation of reports, to collaborate, to communicate, and to collect and manipulate many forms of data. The development of technology skills continues in the Junior High School classes to prepare students for challenges in high school and beyond.
As we continue to grow – both in our knowledge of technology and its uses within the context of a Far Brook education – we work to ensure that every student’s experience with technology expands his or her view of and ability to interact with the world. Our goal is to provide students with access to these powerful tools so that they will be inspired to use technology wisely in their pursuit of knowledge and self-expression.
