This spring, Far Brook
students are enjoying extraordinary musical experiences with Far Brook’s
percussion teacher, Glen Fittin, and his colleague, jazz violinist Mazz
Swift. In Morning Meeting on May 11, Glen and Mazz delighted the students
and faculty with a creative performance using violin and percussion instruments
in original compositions to re-create varied sounds of nature and
animals.
Each class also has the opportunity to explore sound in the
wetlands using these instruments, and to learn how indigenous peoples create
“soundscapes,” from moving water to rustling leaves to birdcalls. This
multisensory experience is made possible by The Fredda S. Leff Endowment
Enrichment Fund.
