ENROLLMENT
PROCEDURES
Far Brook School seeks students from varied economic, racial, and religious backgrounds who are intellectually curious, serious about learning, self-motivated and disciplined. Admissions decisions are made without regard to race, religion, sex or national origin.
The admissions process includes:
Initial Visit by Parents: Parents tour the campus and learn about Far Brook's philosophy and curriculum. Individual tours as well as Open Houses are available.
Application: Parents submit an application along with an accompanying fee of $60 for Nursery and $70 for Kindergarten through Grade 7. New students may be accepted into all grades except Eighth Grade.
Testing/Screening:
Visit by Prospective Student: Candidates for Nursery and Kindergarten are seen in play groups. All other applicants visit in the class they would be joining.
Parent Interview: Parents of applicants to Grades 1 through 7 meet with Far Brook's Director, Mary Wearn Wiener.
School Records: Applicants submit school records and recommendations from teachers.
Timetable: Applications for enrollment may be submitted as early as September of the year preceding desired enrollment and for as long as there are spaces available in the grade. Decisions are made on a rolling basis, beginning in February. Wait-listed candidates may be offered spaces at any time throughout the remainder of the school year and into the summer.
Financial Aid: Financial Aid is awarded on the basis of need, taking into consideration the student's academic and personal qualities. The Edwin A. Finckel Scholarship for the Arts and the Mary Adams Scholarship for Math/Science each offer a minimum of $1,000 per year to incoming Seventh Graders on the basis of merit. More aid is available based on need. The George Bartol Scholarship, Barbara Jordan Endowment, and the Koven Family Scholarship provide tuition assistance for qualified and economically disadvantaged students. The Hite Scholarship assists scholarship families with the necessities of Far Brook life that fall outside the normal range of tuition assistance.
