Welcome from the Head of School

I am pleased to welcome you to Far Brook School, where children learn and grow in a joyful and unhurried atmosphere.

Far Brook’s progressive approach provides a unique combination of theme-based, experiential learning intrinsically connected with high academic standards.  Our richly diverse student body from preschool through the Eighth Grade consists of 240 students who are encouraged to voice their ideas. Intelligence and creativity are honored. Students acquire problem-solving skills through insightful questioning, experimentation, and hands-on experience. They learn that success is often found through collaboration, honoring differing perspectives and opinions, and risk-taking. We emphasize the importance of leadership, responsibility, and respect for others. These lessons are fundamental to the development of confidence and character as students prepare to contribute to the world beyond their years at Far Brook.

Our growing campus, set on nine wooded acres in Short Hills, New Jersey, has an intimate, small village atmosphere. We opened a new state-of-the-art Science and Environmental Center and Music and Arts building in the fall of 2015. Emblematic of Far Brook’s emphasis on both the arts and sciences, these spacious new classrooms connect with our Schoolyard Wetlands habitat, extending our hands-on learning environment for students to explore the natural world.  Far Brook’s arts-infused program recognizes that children are instinctive scientists, writers, and artists for whom experimentation is another form of creative expression.

Guiding this creative journey, our outstanding and highly credentialed faculty value curiosity and inspire questioning and academic discussion. Our 1:6 teacher to student ratio allows connections between faculty and the children not commonly found in schools, so that students are comfortable seeking out teachers, sharing constructive dialogue, and participating in a unique, reciprocal learning experience.

I invite you to visit our campus and see for yourself a school that prepares students for academic success, builds confidence, open minds, and encourages their capacity for great joy.

Warmly,

Amy Ziebarth
