Far Brook Celebrates Diwali
Posted on: 10/28/2010 8:02:00 AM

On October 27, Far Brook celebrated Diwali, the Indian Festival of Lights. Students and staff walked into Moore Hall to see a visual feast of Diyas (lights) and Torans (door and pillar decorations) and reflected on the Anup Jalota Bhajans playing in the background.

Far Brook parent Shilpa Toolsidas, inspired by the First Grade study of Patterns, spoke about Garba Raas, a folk dance popular in Gujarat, India, and Rangolis, a colorful Indian folk art made from sand, grain, flour or flowers.

Following Morning Meeting, the First Grade students created a flower Rangoli and sand Rangolis, using their own stencils. The celebration ended with everyone enjoying homemade Indian snacks while listening to a story of Diwali.

Happy Diwali and Saal Mubarak (Happy New Year) to all!
