Mary Wearn (Haigh) Wiener Appointed Director of Far Brook

In August of 1979, the Board appointed Mary Wearn (Haigh) Wiener Interim Director and confirmed her as Director in December of that same year. Mary began her 40-year-long association with Far Brook in 1966 as a teacher of Grades 6, 4, and 3. But Mary’s first connection to Far Brook can be traced all the way back to her high school years, where she shared the honor of being salutatorian of her Millburn High School graduating class with a student named Sally Adams. Sally graduated from Far Brook in 1957, and was daughter of founding parent, longtime teacher, and former interim director Mary Adams. Although Mary (Haigh) didn’t know Sally well in high school, she knew her well enough to recognize what Far Brook had given her: a solid academic background embellished by an intimate acquaintance with the Greek myths and Shakespeare. In many ways, Mary’s leadership set the foundation for the outstanding and thriving school we know today.
