Far Brook's First Grade has been out and about all year on Far Brook's campus and in local arboreta, closely observing different types of trees, their branches, leaves, and environments as part of the First Grade's curriculum, "Environment and Community." Students have used these observations to inspire creative expression in their drawings, paintings, poems, stories, and, just recently, woodshop sculptures.

For example, First Grade's core curriculum "Environment & Community" inspired that class to imagine, investigate, draw, and paint leaves of many varieties and colors; Nursery observes and paints the birds that come to the feeders outside their window; Fifth Grade students study Greek mythology and paint constellations from those stories.
