Day Campers, Grades N4-4, Optional Swim Lesson Add-on! Summer at Far Brook is partnering with SwimQuest Millburn to offer enrolled Day Campers in Grades N4-4 optional swim lessons at their location at 25 Taylor Street in Millburn, just 2 miles from Far Brook School. Swim lessons will happen on Tuesday and Thursday mornings in July and August, for approximately 40 minutes. Campers will be transported by bus to and from SwimQuest under the supervision of Summer at Far Brook staff. SwimQuest lessons specialize in an individualized progression-based program so each child is taught to their own ability. Lessons will be conducted by certified and trained SwimQuest instructors.

Junior Space Explorers ◊ Far Brook Faculty – Megan Gottlieb

STEAM: Junior Space Explorers – Let’s explore the wonders of our universe! This week, we will explore how scientists study space and how astronauts travel into space from a variety of perspectives. We will learn about the International Space Station, life in space, recent NASA and SpaceX missions, the Hubble space telescope and other deep space probes, wild space weather, moon and Mars explorations, and so much more! Activities will include read-aloud stories, informative slides and graphics, drawing, building and sculpting, movement activities, video clips, games, and discussion. We will even work together to design our own original rockets, landers, probes, and outposts! Get ready to blast off on a summer adventure!

Junior Art Studio – Children’s Book Illustration ◊ Far Brook Faculty – Rob Olazagasti

SPECIALTY: Junior Art Studio, Children’s Book Illustration Workshop – Campers will participate in an exciting workshop centered around drawing, illustration, and book making. This program is designed to introduce students to the illustration process, from ideation and freehand sketching to the development of a finished product. Campers will take a look at different types of illustration and develop their own unique characters and designs using a variety of materials and styles.

Art Adventures, Color Explosion ◊ Far Brook Faculty – Ke Kim

Art Adventures, Color Explosion – Color Explosion centers on the idea of boldly expressing oneself through color. This week campers will immerse themselves in an exploration of all things color using different mediums and creative processes, all in vivid and cheerful colors! Campers will also learn to appreciate the emotions associated with different colors while they create.

Kids in the Kitchen ◊ Far Brook Faculty – April Bell-Martha

Kids in the Kitchen – Let’s get cookin’ and explore some delicious summertime recipes! Cooking together is a great opportunity for collaboration and teamwork, creative thinking, patience, adaptation, and the importance of eating healthy, balanced, and (yes, yummy!) food.

Chess ◊ Diplomat Chess

Campers of all ages will love learning and playing chess with the experienced coaches from Diplomat Chess. Camp time is divided between interactive group lessons, practice games, and special activities like puzzle-solving competitions, tournaments, and bughouse. Lessons accommodate all levels and range from the basic rules to advanced tournament strategies and analysis of famous Grandmaster games. Campers will also enjoy plenty of outdoor time and movement breaks throughout the day.

Get ready to experiment, explore and maaaaaybe get a little messy as we turn common kitchen supplies into an interactive science laboratory! We will explore the scientific method, make predictions and observations, and investigate the properties of substances while having lots of fun. Students will get an introduction to some simple chemistry topics in terms that they can understand! Each day will feature several hands-on experiments or activities to reinforce the concept being taught. Join us as we explore classic favorites like slime, oobleck, volcanoes, elephant toothpaste, and so much more!

Junior Art Studio – Stained Glass Art ◊ Far Brook Faculty – Ke Kim

This exciting art program, led by Far Brook Faculty member Ke Kim, delves into the timeless art of stained glass. Originating from ancient times, stained glass involves meticulous design of lead dividers, hand-tinting of glass, and precise cutting of each piece. Renowned artists like Piet Mondrian and David Hockney, celebrated for their paintings, have also ventured into glass design, creating a vibrant array of colors that illuminate and cast colored
shadows in the spaces they inhabit.
Campers will engage in hands-on learning and experimentation with various approaches to creating stained glass pieces. They’ll explore a range of materials such as tissue paper, shrinky dinks, gallery glass, and more to design and craft their personalized stained glass versions. The program goes beyond creation, delving into the rich history and processes of stained glass, encouraging campers to draw inspiration from different mediums as they embark on their journey to craft their own stained glass masterpieces.

Digital Photography ◊ TBD

In this week-long session, your camper will learn the basics of how to make a great photo: from picking the subject matter to composition, lighting and camera control. They will learn the art of capturing faces, places and moments in time and share the joy with their friends and family!

Take An Adventure Camp ◊ Summer at Far Brook Staff

Take an Adventure campers will spend each day at an off-campus activity, or two! Throughout the week, campers will travel to several indoor and outdoor adventure locations. Curious campers will explore the wonders of the forest habitat and its inhabitants through a guided nature walk and hands-on discovery at the Morris County Park Commission. Using a variety of native and exotic animals, naturalists will educate and entertain campers with a live animal presentation. They will learn about animal adaptations, wildlife conservation issues, food chains, and more! This is a full day program. At the Glassworks Crafting Studio instructors will help students learn the basics of glass fusing, along with learning to handle different types of glass materials. They will design and create an original glass masterpiece. At Smithsonian Spark!Lab at the Morris Museum, campers can explore the world of invention using the Engineering Design Process to solve real-world challenges. This hands-on lab will allow campers to invent, create and collaborate. During their museum visit, they can also explore the changing exhibitions and permanent museum collections. Some of these include the Guinness Collection of Mechanical Musical Instruments and Automata, Digging Dinosaurs, Model trains, and the Dodge room. The Iron Peak Sports and Events Complex offers campers exciting activities like Aerial Ropes, Climbing Wall, and the Ninja Course. They will spend the afternoon back at Far Brook School with wet and dry inflatable slides and obstacle courses.

LEGO Education – Carnival ◊ Far Brook Faculty – Megan Martin

The carnival is in town! Campers will explore the performers, animals, and food at a carnival. Fun daily LEGO projects will help students develop skills and knowledge to complete their culminating, collaborative project: creating a show for visitors to see at the STEAM Park Carnival on the last day.

At Silverquicken Solvers Camp, kids are immersed in a fun fantasy world where they’re transformed into superheroes! They crack tough puzzles, decipher hidden codes, play active games and outwit opponents on magical adventures to save the fictional Silverquicken School and ultimately the world! Every day, campers will create, solve, and play—and exercise problem-solving and teamwork skills in a relaxed, safe setting. Perfect for curious, imaginative kids who love brainteasers, escape rooms, and mysteries.

Special Effects Movie Flix & Minecraft vs Roblox Flix ◊ IncrediFlix

In the mornings, explosions, tornados, meteors! In these high intensity live action movies the special effects will blow your mind. In groups, you’ll get to direct, act, and even choose special effects to incorporate into your movies. Make a movie that will surprise all your friends and family! Then in the afternoons, make a Minecraft MOVIE, a Roblox MOVIE, or make a mashup Movie! Work in groups to create a stop-motion movie full of games or challenges for your character to overcome. Students will create their sets out of construction paper, make their Minecraft blocks, film, add some cool effects, and do voice-overs!

Anime and Manga ◊ Far Brook Faculty – Laneta Lafayette

Anime and manga studies is an emerging field that is of interest to scholars in many different subjects and disciplines around the world. Campers will create their own manga style comics and art in this week-long summer camp! They will watch and discuss anime and get exposed to Japanese animation they may not have seen before. Campers will learn about what makes Anime different from Western animation and more. They will develop and participate in panels and Anime inspired games, crafts, and more. Over the course of the week, campers will write their own Manga comic book. Explore the creative process of drawing anime and manga, and meet new friends who share your love for anime culture!

My First Lemonade Stand ◊ SPARK Business Academy

Let’s sell lemonade! Young campers become “lemonade entrepreneurs” and learn how to make yummy lemonade and earn money selling it! From designing marketing flyers to estimating profits to experimenting with recipes, campers have fun all week while developing business savvy.

InTune Music School ◊ Intune Music Instructors

An introduction to musical instruments for kids Grade 1-3. Campers will learn to play a variety of instruments, write and sing songs, and build their very own Ukulele! We’ll explore Piano, Ukulele, Guitar, Drums and Voice, and form an afternoon singing group, where campers will work toward an end-of-week performance, accompanied by the ukuleles they built themselves!

Fiber Arts and Sewing ◊ TBD

Over the course of the week, campers will be introduced to various fiber arts, including weaving, pom pom and tassel making, punch needle and embroidery. Students will practice the skills and leave with an understanding of different techniques, tools, resources and creations of their own.

STEM + Bash’em Bots w/ LEGO® Materials ◊ PlayWell Teknologies

Gear up for a full-day LEGO® camp packed with hands-on and minds-on STEM fun! In this challenge based program, start by building engineer-designed projects and putting your creativity and problem solving into action. Then, design your custom LEGO® bot to take on any challenge in our unique Bash’em Bots curriculum. Mix and match chassis designs, and combine them with tools like drills, hammers, and battering rams as you refine your masterpiece. Apply real-world engineering and physics concepts to help you bash and crash your way to victory!

Explore hand-sewing, embroidery, knitting, weaving, needle-felting and more by creating fun, one-of-a-kind fiber arts projects. Students are guided by patient and skilled instructors to embrace their imagination and harness their potential through creation. Fiber Arts meets each student where they are on their creative journey, whether they are first-time creators or returners. Campers have the opportunity to develop new skills and tackle new challenges with our rotating curriculum of projects. No experience is necessary, and all the supplies and materials are included.

Campers collaborate in teams as intrepid reporters who write stories and create a digital newspaper of their own. Our junior journalists interview other campers, write about local and camp news, author op-ed pieces and manage the production of a cohesive digital publication. A compelling camp for aspiring school newspaper editors, this program strengthens campers’ writing proficiency and time-management skills in a fun environment that fosters creativity and self-confidence.

Hip Hop ◊ Matthew Westerby Dance Company

In partnership with the Matthew Westerby Dance Company, we will offer a dynamic and engaging program designed to introduce kids to the elements of hip-hop culture, including music, dance, art, and expression. Movement workshops would introduce various hip-hop dance styles, such as breaking, popping, and locking, while also allowing children the chance to collaborate with each other to create movement vocabularies of their own. The students will explore hip-hop music and art with an emphasis on promoting positive messages, self-expression, and creativity through hip-hop culture, building movement skills and confidence through informal sharing of work.

In partnership with the Matthew Westerby Dance Company, we will offer a specialized program to introduce campers to the fundamentals of ballet in a fun and age-appropriate environment. Movement activities introduce children to the basic principles of ballet, including posture, balance, coordination, and flexibility, as well as the fundamental position of the feet and arms.

Live Action & LEGO Flix ◊ IncrediFlix

In the mornings, discover your filmmaking talents! You don’t have to be an actor to take part, as we’ll guide you through the Hollywood process to create, direct, film, act, and more. You won’t just make an incredible movie, you’ll have the skills to make your own movies with friends. And in the afternoon, we’ll bring LEGOs to life working in groups to create a LEGO stop-motion movie with voice-overs.

Whiz, Bang, Boom – Build Your Own Arcade Game ◊ Far Brook Faculty – Chris Murphy

Our pinball wizards will be designing and building a fully functional arcade using upcycled materials and electronics. With guidance, campers will take their designs from game concept to playable arcade games using woodworking tools, LEDs, microcontrollers and more. Campers will collaborate, draw up plans and get to work prototyping to create fun and exciting games of skill and chance. The week will end with an Arcade open house for campers to enjoy.

Bring Minecraft to life using tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Build engineer-designed projects such as a motorized Creeper, a portal to the Nether, and a moving Minecart! Create your favorite Minecraft objects with the guidance of an experienced PlayWell instructor. Whether you are new to Minecraft and LEGO® materials or a seasoned veteran, you’ll be hooked on the endless creative possibilities.

Kids in the Kitchen ◊ TBD

In this hands-on cooking camp we will teach campers basic culinary skills such as using kitchen tools and equipment, how to read and follow a recipe, and how to prepare and safely handle food using fresh ingredients. Our goal is for your child to gain confidence in the kitchen and develop balanced eating habits in a fun, interactive environment.

Build Your Own Mini Golf Course ◊ Far Brook Faculty – Chris Murphy

Campers will design, build (and play!) their own miniature golf course. With guidance, campers will experience an end to end design process which includes: theming, drawing blueprints, choosing materials, and using woodworking tools while building their own miniature golf hole. The golf course architects will use a variety of materials, including recycled cardboard, wood, and electronics to decorate and create a challenging and fun set of links. The week will end with a Miniature Golf expo that parents are welcome to visit and test out their putting skills!

Orienteering & Exploration in the Wetlands ◊  Alex R

Orienteering is an exciting adventure sport that involves competitive navigation along a course, using a map and compass. Competitors find their way from checkpoint to checkpoint (called controls) in the shortest time possible. The aim is to navigate between control points marked on a unique, highly detailed Orienteering map while deciding the best route to complete the course in the quickest time. Test your navigation skills using a customized Far Brook School orienteering map developed by OrienteeringUSA Youth Mapping Program (YMP).

Lacrosse ◊ June 24-28

In a premiere partnership with SWAX LAX Lacrosse, our lacrosse camp provides players with a fun and interactive program to learn and improve their lacrosse skills (based on either boys or girls lacrosse), as well as sessions on health and nutrition for athletes. Swax Lax Lacrosse believes in a positive approach, led by coaches with experience playing at a highly competitive levels and a passion for the sport. Most importantly, their strength of character, patience, and sense of fun allows campers to relax and feel confident as they learn lacrosse. Campers are responsible for their own equipment, including protective gear and lacrosse stick. Any camper in K-4 may sign up for either session.

Baseball ◊ Far Brook Faculty – Coach Mike 

Students will learn from the ground up how to throw, catch, field, hit, bunt, pitch and run the bases. Students of all skill levels will gain from the hands-on coaching, positive reinforcement, and repetitions they will receive from Far Brook’s Coach Mike, an experienced baseball coach at the high school and college level.

Campers will learn the fundamentals and techniques of several net and ultimate sports including one of the fastest growing sports in America, Pickleball.  Other sports will include Team Handball, Ultimate Frisbee, Golf, Volleyball, and more.

Red Bulls Soccer! ◊
July 22-26

The Red Bulls Soccer skills camp focuses on the introduction and mastery of ball skills in a fun learning environment. This is achieved through maximum ball contact, expert coaching, skills challenges and daily homework assignments. Through our camp structure and connection to the professional game, an environment is created that keeps players invested in their own development, long after the camp concludes. Each day focuses on a different topic, with structures activities and skills challenges included to keep the players motivated and focused. Includes a New York Red Bulls Adidas ball and T-shirt, certificate of achievement signed by Red Bulls first team, and complimentary ticket to a New York Red Bulls game. PLEASE NOTE: registration and payment for this week is completed through the Red Bulls website. You will not be charged by Summer at Far Brook, but your selection will be recorded.

SOMA United FC – Soccer ◊ July 29 – August 2

SOMA United FC’s soccer camps focus on building fundamentals in a fun and engaging way. The camp days will consist of dribbling technique drills, passing and movement patterns, enhancing balance, full camp games, and small and large sided scrimmages. The camp will be run by SOMA United FC’s directors and current Seton Hall University mens and women’s soccer players.

Basketball ◊ Far Brook Faculty – Mike Goldfarb

Campers will be taught the basic techniques of shooting, dribbling, passing, rebounding, and defense. Not only will campers learn the fundamentals of basketball but will have fun as they learn. We follow USA Basketball Youth Guidelines ensuring that every camper is being taught the sport of basketball in the correct way.
